Home Improvement I Love Bathroom Cabinets - Great Remodeling Design Ideas

By GmaGoldie

Just as bathrooms over the years have emerged into full size rooms, so too, now the cabinet height is being updated. Gone are the days of leaning into your sink. The old standard was 29" in height. The new standard for bathrooms is now 33 or 32 (kitchen height is 36"). Remember to add approximately 1.5 inches for the height of your counter top. The most important item in remodeling is to think out of the box. Keep the colors and materials user friendly or market friendly but take the extra time to add more shelving or pull your cabinets from the kitchen display. Create a space that is functional and beautiful for many years to come. Journey with me as a we explore a number of great design ideas from grandiose to ultra modern to a new use for kitchen cabinets too!

Remodeling Tip - Review Your Cabinets with Your Sink

Vessel sinks are different; they sit on top of your cabinet. When exploring the many options, be sure to include the final sink in your calculations. A vessel sink on top of a 36" kitchen sink is not recommended for resale value. Keeping the overall cabinet between 32 and 36 is recommended.

Remodeling Tip - When Changing Heights - Practice

A dress rehearsal at home with your desired new height is needed by all family members. When making any major change, go slow, and do follow the cliche measure twice, cut once. It will save you dollars.

Remodeling Tip - Color and Style - Blend with Your Home

A bathroom that is nautical or ultra modern is gorgeous but may look out of place, if it doesn't flow with the rest of your home. You don't have to match but remember you must be able to blend.

Remodeling Tip - Do Move Walls and Add Upper Cabinets

If your budget allows, do move walls and look at adding upper cabinets. Storage is always a winner for resale. Design the space for functionally as well as great looks. Don't skimp on the outlets - females demand outlets in a bathroom.

Remodeling Tip - Wild Colors - Keep Changeable

Trendy and wild colors need to be changeable. You can still have the gold and the lime green or my favorite eggplant, simply retain those colors for changeable items such as paint and accessories. Design with the premise IF you had to market your home, can you reasonably and feasibly change out the colors to neutral to appeal to the masses?

Remodeling Tip - Multiple Heights

Transiting from one sink to the next, don't make one long run way. Change the heights and intersperse a vanity table or a higher cabinet height for other bathroom amenities.

I really like the first bathroom. Good job GmaGoldie and thank you for the information. I recently redid my bathroom but this makes me want to redo it again.

twogroce,

The first bathroom was my inspiration for this article-absolutely love the warmth of that marble, the classic antique white cabinets, the upper cabinets and my list goes on. Of course, the height of the ceiling and the centerpiece of the tub are delightful too but the others have great design inspirations too. Modern can be exciting too as the blue bathroom details.

My favorite detail would be the upper cabinets. They provide more space, they also provide more design details. Borrowing from the kitchen, the upper cabinets are my first feature of choice for the bathroom.

So glad you stopped by-thank you for your high marks. Sorry for the delay in responding-trying to juggle many things. Your patience is appreciated.
