Gift giving should be fun and the presentation of the package should be a joy and work of art. Take your gift giving to a new level this year, consider some old fashion favorites that have now been updated. For me, I am going with the brown paper (for savings and the ability to recycle) and some ric rac and some fuchsia raffia. Yes, I said fuchsia raffia. Raffia now comes in every color under the sun including metallic. Holiday trimming does not have to be simply red and green. Yes, red and green are the classics and forever will be the classics. Try mixing it up - add a shocking pink fuchsia on the top of a glass dish of home made cookies (myself, I love the Anchor Hocking TrueSeal in the bright lime green combined with the almost neon fuchsia pink raffia). Or for a simpler touch, red and green yarn. Red and green yarn works on any package.

Ditch the barrels of bows - do something unique this year with your holiday packages and gifts. Mix it up - add new colors, add new types of wrapping materials.

Reuse | Recycle | Renew

Your gifts will look great and be memorable too! Best yet, many of these ideas are reusable. Don't throw out that yarn, ric rac, save and reuse for another year.

Pipe Cleaners and Ink Stampers Not Just for Craft Projects - Great Wrapping Tools

Mix up your wrapping materials and take the brown paper and create your very own design with a ink stamper. Or add in the fun and colorful pipe cleaners. Get your children involved or borrow your friends children to lend fun and frolic to the activity.

Craft Ideas for Ornaments and Wrapping Presents

Another classic favorite is the red paper with the gold. The gold raffia is wonderful because it adds a splash of light but in the raffia texture, it is more reflective.  The perfect combination to be would be the shiny red wrapping paper with the gold metallic raffia.

Remember your package doesn't have to be a cardboard box. Add a glass food container and add in your favorite homemade recipe and you have created a fun presentation without breaking the budget.

Enjoy your holiday and remember GmaGoldies's rule to always be frugal - always shop early.

The simpler it is to wrap- the happier I am. Not only do I hate wrapping gifts............ I am a horrible gift wrapper. My daughter inherited that job years ago! Thanks for the great ideas......... Kaie

Kaie Arwen,

I completely agree! My mother thought my lack of expertise stemmed from being an only child! But I can cook and I would rather cook.

I wrote this Hub for the best containers for frugal giving of homemade edible gifts:

readabook,

Great gifts are both frugal and simple. Love these items. Wrapping is not for me - tying a bow I can do, man handling the decorative pipe cleaners, stamping a simple design - these I can do!

Thank you for stopping by and sharing.

Saving and recycling has always been my mantra. I even used to save the wrapping supplies from others in a group that would have tossed them! Haha! I like your ideas and this timely advice.

I have bad feng sui - I save leftover wrapping paper and neatly fold and retain under my bed - a major no - no.

A poor childhood remains and my frugality will forever be apart of me. And I will wear it proudly.

During the first year of my professional career, I haunted the resale shops - they were not trendy as they are now - others eventually followed me and it became cool but oh, did I take the grief.

I still love used clothing and reusing items even when the checkbook is plentiful - it is still a good practice.

Hi Janet21 -

Recognized your fun party themes and your name from Squidoo as I was poking around for familiar faces. As usual - another great and informative hub. I ALWAYS use a cupcake tree for our Halloween parties - they just look great on a tablescape.

Thanks for the info - janices7

P.S. Just finished my first hub, thought I'd dip my toe in the water to see how it feels:)

I found a cupcake tree that comes in a flower shape -- floret, I think they call it. www.crystalpalacecupcaketre.com

I've bought three stands from www.cupcaketree.com for parties and they have been great! We decorated them ourselves which added a personal touch to the events (birthday, wedding shower and halloween party). They're really easy to use and very sturdy -we had a heavy cream cake on top of the large square one!. Best part is its recyclable. I highly recommend them :)

ajmal@6,

I love the cupcaketree idea! The cupcaketree may be better served on this Hub that I wrote about a frugal wedding centerpiece - great item for the children's table at a wedding.
