Home Improvements - Daybeds Trundle - A New Luxury for the Spare Bedroom
81In today's world a day bed simply makes sense. Families are smaller and yet you can always use that extra comfortable bed for a guest. Years ago the rage was for sofa beds and later for futons - the adjustable sofa like piece of furniture that converted to a bed. Yet, throughout the years, the tried and true day bed remains the best alternative. A day bed fits comfortably either as a twin bed or a full size bed - it is the bedding that determines it's daytime look not the size.
The decorating options for both the bed frame and the linens are simply limitless. The bed frames could be a romantic Victorian or a modern piece of leather furniture any male would be proud to own. You can make the daybed look like a bedroom or a study or even add in a nautical feel.
Journey with us as we explore various types of bed frames including the trundle bed (sorry - no bunk beds here) and various linens that can readily change your decor. Learn the various terms from trundle bed to futon to high-riser - yes a high-riser is a day bed - I had never heard that term before but it makes sense - a couch with a frame concealed to house a mattress.
A fitness client of mine confided that she changes here bed linens every season. For the holiday season, the color scheme changes and then Spring and so on. I thought that was a fun and yet frugal way to quickly spice up your living space. As the day bed linens showcase, you can do the very same thing with your day bed. Change the linens and the accessories to match your mood or season.
Trundle: A low bed on casters that can be rolled under another bed for storage
Day Bed: A couch or sofa that is convertible into a bed.
High-Riser: A couch or single bed with a frame that conceals a mattress - when pulled out all the way, the upper cushion locks in place to form a double bed.
Trundle Bed - Another Option
Unlike a bunk bed, a trundle tucks neatly out of sight and out the way. A trundle bed is often a more expensive option than a bunk bed but the versatility will pay over the years. Trundle beds are always in demand - you are ready for that unexpected guest any time.
Yes, there are inflatable mattresses and quite frankly our family has owned half a dozen of these. The investment in the trundle bed simply makes long term sense. A trundle is a permanent bed that rolls under your bed. You can use a twin trundle underneath a twin or full bed - it simply rolls out.
The more expensive trundle beds have the look of a drawer. The decorating options for the day bed are simply unbelievable - leather, bamboo, Victorian, wrought iron - you name it - there is a style for anyone.
Why a Day Bed?
Throughout the years, we have tried everything - the expensive full out sofa sleeper, the fold up cot, the inflatable mattresses - nothing is more versatile and comfortable for your guests than a day bed.
When staying at a hotel, a fold up cot may be an option to consider when space is particularly tight - however, it is never recommended - simply a last option.

Nan,
You are right, they are a great space saver. I thrive on things that serve multiple purposes and like to have a room complete.
We have a smaller vintage home and yet I strive to keep room so that it hugs you and you wish to stay. I spare bedroom is a hard room to decorate and hard to accomplish.
One of my greatest joys in life is having company. I adore visitors especially having family visit. I want them comfortable so that they want to return. A daybed is a great option.
